At INDIA-AIDS, the Stitching and Tailoring program—officially titled Assistant Dress Maker—has been a cornerstone of women empowerment. Through this JSS-affiliated course, women from slum communities, underprivileged backgrounds, and marginalized sections are trained to become self-sufficient entrepreneurs and job-ready tailors.
Conducted in batches of 20, this hands-on course teaches everything from basic hand-stitching to machine operations, pattern drafting, garment construction, alterations, and even basic fashion design. Participants also gain exposure to fabric knowledge and market insights to help them work independently or seek employment in boutiques or production units.
Most importantly, these courses provide certification under the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, helping our trainees build credibility and confidence in their skills.
This initiative has already changed the lives of hundreds of women, many of whom now earn a stable income from tailoring work or small businesses set up within their own homes. For many, it’s the first step toward financial independence and dignity.
At INDIA-AIDS, every stitch tells a story—of empowerment, self-worth, and transformation. We continue to welcome aspiring learners who wish to turn this simple skill into a lifelong asset.
